1. WHAT GOOD
Make amends, tell your childhood friend they were something to you
Cos it gets dark, and when it's so dark you gonna wish for a light or two
No we don't talk like we used to do in the meadows of our youth
But you're a part of the last good truth 'fore this yellow took my tooth
Time like a howlin' jet plane takin' off for good
I'm but a passenger I never said I understood
What good does the flyin' do, what good?
Here I am standing at the edge of this wooden pier
And through this fog at the waterfront docks see the ship sails disappear
Yes it is gone to another shore where they sky's shiny, blue and clear
But is it wrong to expect return at the end of a troubled year?
Time like a smokey steam boat takin' off for good
I'm but a passenger I never said I understood
What good does the sailin' do, what good?
What good does the flyin' do, what good?
Rocky road, must I pay your toll every time I ride?
Cos all your street lights lead me somewhere deep neath the county line
And the song on the radio well it's cuttin' in and out
And how long till my engine blows/ till my vessel's breakin' down
Time like a racin' speed car takin' off for good
I'm but a passenger I never said I understood
What good does the drivin' do, what good?
What good does the sailin' do, what good?
What good does the flyin' do, what good?
2. CAUGHT IT FROM THE RYE
The sky then opened up/ and from it came a light
Where have you been? I caught it from the rye
Well I was in a canyon/ mingled with a tribe
Soon became my family as I became their kind
Sure I'm gettin' older/ but younger than you still
Where have you been? Was in the northern hills
Pickin' up the daisies/ a child left behind
As I put 'em by a tombstone/ pretendin' it was mine
And it's the changin' of the walls
All my favorite paintings/ they keep on fallin' down
And I need savin' by the grace of God
But I know he's off creatin' /another one like me
Lively live a lot/ then die beyond and rot
Where have you been? Just ponderin' a thought
If nothin's everlastin'/ and everything is lost
Then everyone around me is all I ever got
Sure I blame the order/ the government is real
Where have you been? Just trynna make deal
To the chief commander: be privy on the small
Cos soon they'll understand it/ the ice will fall to salt
And it's the changin' of the walls
All my favorite paintings/ they keep on fallin' down
And I need savin' by the grace of god
But I know he's off creatin' /another one like me
Just let a cage bird sing prison tunes to pass the time
3. UNDEAD GOD OF WAR
Dreadfully, I watch through eyes too young for me
The undead God of war, he lies in recovery
Up in the clouds, the eagle flies so mournfully
From its claws, the head of a boar spills blood on Main Street
And from below, I thought it was snow
Cos everyone was frozen
I don't sleep well anymore
On nightmares I've been chokin'
Conditionally, I spend time in society
Yes, not unless I'm sure my freedoms follow me
Cos some of my friends, troubles hound them constantly
The judiciary branch falls off the money tree
And Mother Nature, I guess she caters
To those with white skin
I don't feel well anymore
To darkness I'm returnin'
4. FRANKLIN’S TUNNEL
In this tunnel, there's a light
But it's shinin' on the other side of time
Notwithstanding I'm alright
Yea I got me one good place I can hide
The shadows all around me know what I like
I can be anybody whenever I'm unseen
Tobacco and whiskey next to me
I take a drag of my Zig-Zag and have a drink
Cold air of the country on my teeth
Moonrise on the meadow and over the creek
When twilight flickers I know to sing
Singin' until the mornin' comes to cover me
My brothers and sister on my mind
How I wish I could be there all the time
But they don't know how hard I try
To be somethin' to look at with easy eyes
Just tell em' I'll come back home when it's right
I could be so helpless, I could be so blind
5. ONLY SORROW REMAINS
Close to the end of the century I
Had a fever dream about all the death I might find
In it I knew every poem by heart
That was ever made/ then rightfully died
As of late I have long nights
No matter the news of the day
And I shouldn't say
But it just don't feel right
To feel right
When nothin' but sorrow remain
See all the missiles that's searchin' for land
See all of the men and the women
Who's doin' the same
So far removed from the issues at hand
In the western world, we see it in vain
As of late I have long nights
No matter the news of the day
And I shouldn't say
But it just don't feel right
To feel right
When nothin' but sorrow remain
I live in an age that's repeatin' the past
Almost word for word
I wonder how long it can last
The Garden of Eden has not yet been found
Not a single blade/ that grows in it's grass
As of late I have long nights
No matter the news of the day
And I shouldn't say
But it just don't feel right
To feel right
When nothin' but sorrow remain
Only sorrow remains
6. REAL YOU
She's got a soft spot for me now
cos when she says my name outloud
Well I can hear it in the timbre of her hitchhike voice
She wants to know where I have been
And ever since our fallin' out
baby I have been around
Yes I been out my mind in somebody else's arms
But it gets old/ and I'm aging
I want the real/ want the real/ want the real
Want the real you now
Yea I'm lookin' for the real/ for the real/ for the real
For the real you babe
I took a ride on a carousel
and it was off of it I fell
for far too long my mind's been spinnin'/ and its hard to keep on
Just for the sake of keepin' on
If I should say to her farewell
It's just because I cannot tell
If it is her or I who's hidden in the dark
When her eyes close, mine open
I want the real/ want the real/ want the real
Want the real you now
Yea I'm lookin' for the real/ for the real/ for the real
For the real you now
Sometimes I think I hear her singin'
But I mistake it for the nightingale's call in the thick and the fog of the night
There must be someone you've been keepin'
But still you're plaguing my mind/ yea you haunt me/ I still feel your heart beat
I want the real/ want the real/ want the real
Want the real you now
Yea I'm lookin' for the real/ for the real/ for the real
For the real you babe
I want the real you, real you
Yea I want the real you
7. MOTH’S CROSSING
You are the beat of my heart/ I feel the whole ground shakin' around me
When I think about you/ thinkin' bout me
The way I see when we are apart it's a miracle, miracle that the world still exists
And the mind doesn't split in two
Oh-Oh
You make it hard to doubt you
I've tried to do it alone but never been too sad or happy
Without you by my side/ oh my darlin' my pride
It's like you said before/ "there ain't nothin' that matters more/
Than the time that we're in"/ That's why I intend to not let you go
Next time you show/ It's everlastin'
But I don't wanna stop you
From bein' someone
Who's without me
But baby I can't wait forever anymore
Unlock your door
You are the light in the dark/ no the moth don't cross without you
And your luminous rings/ oh my kerosene dreams
I heard a while ago that you're givin' up, lettin' go
Well c'mon, get a grip/ it's so easy to slip
So hold on/ just a little bit longer
Cos it won't be long
8. GET IT BY NOW BLUES
You were wrong for the first time my dear
Take a look at yourself/ find a soul, find a mirror
Yea your logic is somethin' I fear
Yea when you count it all up/ you say my lovin's unclear
You say you're doin' me a favor baby
But don't you get it by now
All I want is for to show you
Is that I'm listenin', I hear ya
Oh
I was only testin' your bones
It's been a long time since I've had you near
Now you're the bell in my pocket that chimes outta fear
So for now, I'll just sip my beer
Yea
Oh, when I've had enough, I sound so sincere
You say you're doin' me a favor baby
But don't you get it by now
All I want is for to show you
Is that I'm missin' you all through the night
And now you're tellin' me to get used to it
9. LAST HURRAH
You shouldn't ask the cavalier directions home
He will offer you a dollar just to leave him alone
But if you're in such a hurry to escape this place
Then why'd you wait till the moon hung high?
Somewhere along the alleyway it all makes sense
As you lean against your lover's arm with false-relent
The faces in the window of the restaurant,
They all look drawn on a sheet of glass
Already leavin' in my mind
I got nothin' left that I can share
Don't wanna waste more of your time
It ain't fair
To neither one of us
You stare into the foggy sky lookin' hard for the words
To describe the way you're feelin' when the truth begins to hurt
Lookin' at the aftermath of what you've done
The time has come for your own repair
The fortune teller tells a joke in future-tense
Yea the traveler she told it to ain't laughed much since
And hearin' both the last hoorah and a new life born
You cut the thorn from the rose's stem
Already leavin' in my mind
I got nothin' left that I can share
Don't wanna waste more of your time
It ain't fair
Already leavin' in my mind
I got nothin' left that I can share
Don't wanna waste more of your time
It ain't fair
To neither one of us
